Jin Joson: Artist Profile

Hi, my name is Jin

I like to draw,

and take pictures,

and I’m not very good at introductions.

I’m a visual artist based in the Philippines. I’ve had the honor and privilege to win some awards and have my work featured and published overseas. Currently I’m working freelance, and have so far enjoyed being able to take on so many varied things, and learning from working with so many different people.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved playing with colors. What started as hazy memories of drawing with markers until they ran dry has led to me engaging myself in all sorts of visual art mediums.

I paint traditionally with acrylic, oil or watercolor. Sometimes it’s my personal work, other times it’s for clients’ private collections or publications. This painting is part of a series I painted for a client’s home.

I also draw digitally and design stuff for print. I’ve done magazine illustrations, album covers, and exhibit installations.

When I do photography by myself, it’s usually for product shoots or food photography. Here’s one of the shots I took for the menu of Ajisen Ramen. I greatly enjoy eating, so this sort of work is always very satisfying for me.

I also do some portraiture with visual treatments inspired by painting and illustration. The photo above is one of the works I showcased at a gallery show. It was very well received, and it was rewarding to hear from people who immediately recognized the painting inspiration behind the photography.

I’ve been blessed with an amazingly talented group of friends, and together we love creating images (and sometimes videos) inspired by things ranging from anime to random things spawned by our imaginations. The above image is a mock movie poster I put together just for fun. We made costumes based on the Disney film Mulan and did a photo shoot to imitate those historical drama Chinese movie posters. I had so much fun with the post-processing! It would be awesome to work on real movie posters.

We’ve made a habit of having photoshoots for fun, this has led us to opportunities to represent brands together. One of our favorite partners is a design company in Japan, who chose us to promote their products with our quirky and colorful photo and video creations.
